Mühle-Glashütte and Koehler Paper develop an ecological watch case

The two independent family companies Koehler Paper and Mühle-Glashütte have joined forces to develop a high-quality and sustainable watch packaging with other project participants.

Koehler Paper can look back on more than 210 years of company history and is today one of the few independent German family companies in the paper industry. At the headquarters in Oberkirch and the plants in Kehl, Greiz and Weisenbach, the company produces a large number of specialty papers using the latest technology. This gave rise to the idea of developing a high-quality and at the same time sustainable packaging for a luxurious watch. The ecological luxury packaging should consist of 100% recycled paper.

Mühle-Glashütte was happy to make itself available as a cooperation partner for this forward-looking project. As an independent family company, Mühle-Glashütte has always valued a family atmosphere with employees, customers, trading partners and resources. For the Glashütte watch manufactory, familial is in a certain respect synonymous with the term “sustainable”, which is rightly becoming more and more important. As in a family, what counts for the company above all is fair, long-term and future-oriented dealings with one another and with the necessary resources. In addition, Mühle-Glashütte feels committed not only to the production site in Glashütte, but above all to the home of the owner family, the natural region of the Ore Mountains.

The future needs values
With my racing bike in summer, on cross-country skis in winter - my family and I live, work and relax in and around Glashütte. Protecting nature in our beautiful region and worldwide is extremely important to me, not only as an entrepreneur, but also personally. That is why we are happy to participate in the development of sustainable packaging for our wristwatches.

CEO Mühle-Glashütte

Family business: At first glance, that sounds like a long tradition that has been inherited from several previous generations. However, if your own children are already working in the family business, the term “sustainability” takes on a completely different, directly tangible meaning. Mühle-Glashütte reflects on its own actions and therefore always makes decisions with future generations in mind.

Mechanical wristwatches go very well with an ecological project of this kind: because many Mühle watches are passed on from father to son and are therefore made for generations. In the event of damage, they can always be repaired. After a service or an overhaul, they shine in almost new condition and are ready to serve their wearer faithfully for the next five years.

Against this background, they deserve equally sustainable packaging – and are the perfect product for an innovative project on the topic of sustainability. Because the production of Mühle wristwatches, which are only a few centimeters in size, requires only a small amount of raw materials and resources. In addition, these are largely processed by hand and therefore very gently.

30 years since our refoundation.

Time to celebrate.
