Nautische Instrumente

Mühle-Glashütte

April is a special month for our family business: It was founded by Robert Mühle in April 1869. In April 1994, Hans-Jürgen Mühle gave it its current form. In April 2024, three generations of the Mühle family are working in our manufactory in Glashütte.

30 years ago, Hans-Jürgen Mühle founded our family business as “Mühle-Glashütte GmbH nautische Instrumente und Feinmechanik”. Here he initially manufactured marine chronometers and ship’s clocks.

This new type of measuring instruments were the result of a decisive event for our family business: in 1972, it was nationalized and incorporated into VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe as “Betriebsteil 7 Mess- und Regeltechnik”. Here Hans-Jürgen Mühle moved to the sales department of GUB, where he was responsible for ship’s clocks, marine chronometers and wristwatches in Eastern Europe.

After German reunification, Hans-Jürgen Mühle re-establishes our family business. On April 1st, 1994, he and 2 employees begin to construct a new quartz marine chronometer based on the Glashütte design.

In 1995, one of the shipyards we supply asks if we can also supply some robust, water-resistant wristwatches as ship equipment? This is the start of wristwatch production at Mühle-Glashütte.

The first two Mühle wristwatches available for sale are the Men’s Sports Diver’s Watch and the Naval Pilot’s Watch-I.

Wristwatches are our great passion

Into the future as a trio of leaders

In the anniversary year 2024, we are not only celebrating the 30th anniversary of Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte, but also the official entry of the 6th generation into the management level of our family business.

After Thilo Mühle took over the management of the company from his father Hans-Jürgen in 2007, he has gradually developed Mühle-Glashütte into an esteemed manufactory – the fine Robert Mühle calibers are fascinating examples of this.

Now we are delighted that his children are also involved in the family business. Together, Thilo, Fanny and Dustin are now shaping its future as a management trio.
