R. Mühle & Sohn

The manufactory line from Mühle-Glashütte

Our manufactory line is based on the traditional craftsmanship of Glashütte – the time when our family company manufactured speedometers, car clocks and measuring instruments for the German watch factories in our Saxon homeland. This legacy is expressed, for example, in the screwed gold chatons of the Robert Mühle caliber – or in the rare three-fifths plate with which we enrich today’s clockwork technology.

2014 - 2016 - 2019

Chronology of the manufactory line

In 2014 we not only celebrated the 145th anniversary of the company founding by Robert Mühle, but also 20 years of Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte. For this double anniversary, we presented an exclusive special edition of three timepieces: the Robert Mühle Auf/Ab Gold, the Robert Mühle Auf/ab and the Robert Mühle Kleine Sekunde. These marked the beginning of our manufactory line “R. Mühle & Sohn ”. Its youngest member is the Robert Mühle Mondphase, with which the third self-constructed complication finds its way into the manufactory line. In addition to the new moon phase display, the 42 millimeter platinum, red gold and stainless steel cases of the new special edition house the in-house up/down display from 2014 and the Mühle pointer date developed in 2016.

2014
Robert Mühle Auf/Ab
2014 marks both the 145th anniversary of the company's founding by Robert Mühle and the 20th anniversary of the new founding of the family business by Hans-Jürgen Mühle. On this double anniversary, our exclusive manufactory line “R. Mühle & Sohn“ celebrated its premiere: with the three models Robert Mühle Auf/Ab Gold, the Robert Mühle Auf/Ab and the Robert Mühle Kleine Sekunde.
2016
Robert Mühle Zeigerdatum
With the Robert Mühle Zeigerdatum we are honoring the life's work of our company founder and reviving a classic, rarely used complication: the pointer date. As befits a real manufactory timepiece, the mechanism has been completely redesigned. An exclusive trait that is emphasized by the limited edition of 100 pieces.
2019
Robert Mühle Mondphase
In the anniversary year 2019, the third self-designed complication will find its way into the Mühle-Glashütte manufactory line. In addition to the new moon phase display, the 42 millimeter platinum, red gold and stainless steel cases of the limited special edition house the in-house up/down display and the Mühle pointer date.

Homage to the founder of our tradition

A little-known fact is expressed in our manufactory line: Our family company is the only Glashütte watch manufacturer that is still owned by a family rooted in Glashütte. Thanks to each of the six generations of the family that we can look back on such a long tradition. Courageous company founders are just as much among them as far-sighted leaders who bring the tradition of precise measurement into harmony with the new economic and technical challenges. Robert Mühle is of particular importance here. In 1869, he founded a small precision engineering workshop in Glashütte and thus steered the fortunes of our Mühle family into the path that is still valid today.
Pure manufacture

Constructive features

With Thilo Mühle, our company has a fifth generation managing director at its head. Under his leadership, Mühle-Glashütte has developed step by step into what is called a manufactory in watchmaking: that is, a watch manufacturer who has the ability to design its own movements and manufacture most of the components for it itself. The first step in this direction is our MU 9408 chronograph movement. This is based on a basic movement that we modified so deeply that a separate caliber designation was necessary. The first completely self-constructed movement was our manual winding movement MU 9411, which was used in the Teutonia III Handauzug (manual winding). This development was crowned in 2019 by the new Robert Mühle caliber 04.

Uhrwerk Manufakturlinie RMK-03
Manufactory movements
We designed the hand-wound movements of the Robert Mühle manufactory line in the spirit of classic Glashütte watchmaking - including an engraved balance cock and screwed gold chatons.
Explosion Mondphasenmodul Robert Mühle
Precise moon phase display
In the Robert Mühle caliber RMK 04, in addition to our up/down display and the Mühle pointer date, there is a moon phase display designed to be accurate to 122 years.
Rare three-fifths plate
In addition to the three-quarter plate, many variants of the large cover plate were also developed in Glashütte. Our three-fifths plate enriches the movement technology common in Glashütte today.
RMK-03-Regulierung
Woodpecker neck regulation
The particularly shock-proof woodpecker neck regulation, developed by Mühle-Glashütte, is a further development of the well-known swan neck fine regulation. Not only does it enable a watch to be regulated sensitively, it also makes a Mühle watch particularly robust.
Glashütte Click
This ratchet has a specially shaped pawl with an elongated mounting hole. As usual, this engages the ratchet wheel and prevents the tension spring from suddenly relaxing. When fully wound, it also allows the ratchet wheel to turn back a little, which takes some of the load off the mainspring.
Glashütte up/down display
The power reserve display is called the up/down display in Glashütte. “Up” stands for a fully wound barrel, “Down” for a completely expired movement.
The Mühle pointer date
The pointer date is one of those complications that have been known for a long time, but are rarely realized today: we redesigned it for the Robert Mühle Zeigerdatum (pointer date) in 2016.

Seven exclusive timepieces

With the manufactory line “R. Mühle & Sohn “begins a new chapter in the 150-year history of our family company. This is mainly due to the movements: the Robert Mühle calibers RMK 01 to RMK 04. In addition, the models from the “R. Mühle & Sohn” manufactory line not only insoire with particularly elegant cases made of 18 carat gold or 950 platinum, but also with many other technical refinements:
