At Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte, the year 2020 was used well despite the restrictions caused by the corona pandemic. The Glashütte family-run business is starting the new year with a major innovation – and has published a new website in January 2021. This now also offers the opportunity to purchase a wristwatch directly from Mühle-Glashütte. On this occasion we talk to Thilo Mühle, managing director and 5th generation of the family business, about the past year and his plans for 2021.

How was the past year under the impression of the corona pandemic for Mühle-Glashütte?

 

2020 was a very unusual year for all of us. It was a constant adjustment of work and business processes in order to meet the requirements that the corona pandemic placed on us. From all these points of view, we are very satisfied with the past year 2020.

 

 

 

 

What do you expect from this year and what plans does the family business Mühle-Glashütte have for 2021?

 

We will also drive on sight in the new year. The pandemic will surely accompany us until summer 2021, so that we will probably not have undisturbed business operations for a few more months. Since we look positively into the future, we will stick to our development plan and only regulate the speed at which individual projects are implemented.

 

 

 

 

With the publication of the new website, you have already implemented a project for 2021. What are the biggest changes in it?

 

We just went live with the new website. On the one hand, we have improved the display of our timepieces on this so that those interested in watches and our customers can get a comprehensive picture of a model. On the other hand, you can now purchase a watch directly from our website.

 

For example, you can decide whether you want to pick up the watch from a specialist dealer or purchase it directly from us. Not only do we maintain the partnership with our specialist dealers, our customers also have the freedom to choose when, how and where they buy a Mühle watch. The watch industry must place the buyer or wearer of a watch at the center of its actions even more than before. The new website is a further step on this path for us.

 

 

 

 

The sixth generation is now working in the family business with your son: How will you continue to work together?

 

I am personally very pleased that my son Dustin found his way into our family business. He has now taken over the purchasing department. This is a very important task, as it is well known that purchasing makes a profit … (laughs). Above all, in this position, which also includes order control, you get to know the company and our production processes down to the smallest detail.

For example, you are welcome to bring your watch directly to our manufactory or send it to us by post with the note “Service”. Please contact us in advance if you would like a service in our manufactory in Glashütte. We will be happy to provide you with more information about our services, the safe shipping of your Mühle watch and send you a return slip. In addition, you can contact a Mühle retailer in your area. They will not only give you competent advice, there you can also hand in your watch for an inspection conveniently and easily.
